Trump is promoting the policy that AI companies are capable of self-regulation and that they don’t need any broader guardrails or oversight from outside.

In the same vein, why not eliminate all multinational treaties on nuclear weapons? Why not allow each nuclear nation to regulate itself?

This talk of uncontrolled nuclear (or AI) apocalypse brings to mind Randy Newman’s Political Science (1972) which sounds ripped from the headlines:
